1.6: Workflow Processes
Action Restricted Access - The privileges granted to a user restrict what actions they can preform. It is possible to have one author who is only able to create/edit a content element, while another can be granted access to publish that content to a site. This leads to the creation of specific workflow processes that can be used to ensure content is reviewed before publication, thus increasing accuracy and integrity.
Data Integrity Filters - Any action performed on a site can be checked for validity. Missing or invalid data can be checked for and the author alerted to the problem, allowing for greater accuracy of the content. (e.g. If a new content element is created with URL links as part of the content, it is then possible to scan those links with the CMS to ensure they exist. Alternately a new user must have a unique username; the data filters can check a new username and disallow it if they name has already been used.)
Content Editors - Each unique type of content has one or more editors designed to make the authoring of that content a streamlined process. Because of the separated nature of the content elements, there can be more than a single editor for that content, each one designed to make a particular process more efficient. (e.g. One editor for products could display the entire product information, while a second only displays the name and price fields, allowing for the efficient changing of product prices). The content editors can also have special functions available to achieve a group of tasks in a single action, thus reducing the time involved in making changes.
Content Status - With an online/offline status setting for any content, it becomes possibly to create or edit content offline; then once it has been approved for publication it is set to online and becomes accessible to the site users.
Content Versioning - By maintaining a full version history for important content data, it is possible to undo any changes made to content. Accidents can happen, and with a system of versioning that captures all changes made to content, it removes the chance of data being lost for whatever reason.
