1.1: Content Separation

The distinction between the content of a site and its design components allows for much greater accuracy in information, multiple platform support, custom preferences for design elements, and much more.

Non-technical Authoring - By removing all the design elements from the content authoring process the information is presented to the author without the extra distraction of the design (see templates), allowing the author to focus directly upon the content. The editors enlist powerful authoring aids that make the job of the content author easier and more efficient.

Content Reuse - The same content can be reused in several places, and any changes made to one content piece are applied globally to the site (e.g. product information for display and for cart systems). This leads to greater accuracy of content and improved site integrity.

Content Organisation - Content separation allows content to be grouped for easy access without being forced to follow the structure of the website, and in fact can be grouped in several different ways to highlight particular needs of usability (e.g. documents grouped by author, specified type, access levels, last update times, etc).

Template Integration - With the content separated from the design it then becomes possible to alter the design without reworking all the content that uses those designs. This allows for a complete re-branding/redesign of an existing site without touching the content, multiple templates to cater for differing platforms (or web browsers), multiple templates based upon user access levels, and for the creation of dynamic template alterations which are selected by the user to display the site according to their custom preferences.
