1.7: Modular Components
Extendible Functionality - The modular nature of the CMS allows for the creation of independent modules that are integrated into a single system. This means that when new functionality is required to achieve a component of a website, that function is easily incorporated into the existing system. A template module is used as a base for all other modules. This ensures that the new module can interact fully with current system and make full use of the features within, while still giving new features to the overall system that doesn’t break existing features.
Rapid Development - Due to the use of a base template for all extensions to the system, new components can be added in an efficient manner, reducing development time drastically. The template defines all the required functions that allow the module to interact with the current system, allowing the programmer to focus on the new functions.
Reduced Bugs and Errors - Modular and object-based programming methods help reduce the problems of bugs in code. It allows for the targeting of specific changes for testing purposes and, once a module has been proven to work, it can be eliminated from the bug testing phase of new development.
